As part of the Cahersiveen Celtic Music Festival, we hosted our second Evening of Church Music and Song on Sunday August 3rd 2008, with composer Ronan McDonagh and his group Fuaimlaoi. In terms of its commitment to the liturgical integration of Irish traditional music and the sheer quality of its output, Fuaimlaoi is the most significant group to emerge in this country since the founding by Sean O Riada of Cor Chuil Aodha. Fuaimlaoi is made up of singers and instrumentalists, many of whom are graduates of either music, theology or Irish, and the group is based at St Teresa's Church Clarendon St. Dublin, where it performs regularly at the Mass. The group's music is arranged and directed by Ronan McDonagh, organist and uileann piper, who is steadily gaining a reputation as Ireland's finest liturgical composer. Spanning a variety of forms and styles, McDonagh's work is distinguished by a rare beauty and freshness, giving distinctive expression to words from the Book of Psalms, traditional hymns and native Irish compositions such as 'Seimn Alleluia'. All who were present agreed that it was a most beautiful and uplifting evening, a blessing to behold. Thanks to www.iveraghpanoramics.com for the photograph
